“At 31 years old, I decided in February of 2016 that it was time to make a commitment to working out, losing weight and becoming fit. It had been over 5 years since I had any kind of exercise routine or athletic activities in my life. Over those 5 years I steadily gained over 25 lbs – which at 5’1” tall, is a significant amount of weight gain. I have also always been an active and athletic person involved in soccer, tennis, volleyball, etc. so I really let myself slip over the years.
I decided to hire a personal trainer because I felt the most out of shape I had ever been in my life and lacked the confidence to begin working out on my own at a gym or in group classes. I’ve been a tennis player all of my life and I even lacked the confidence to begin playing tennis again considering how out of shape I felt.
I hired Scott, and we began working out 2-3x a week. For the first several sessions, I hated it! I dreaded going to our workouts but I bought a package of sessions and made the commitment to stick with it. After about 2 weeks of workouts, something “clicked”. I was starting to feel stronger throughout my day-to-day routines and I no longer dreaded the workouts, I actually looked forward to them! Shortly after that, my confidence for tennis came back and I began tennis sessions with Scott. I was very rusty but I stuck with it. Scott recommended that I start playing matches again so I signed up for a singles league.
Fast forward 6 months….I’ve lost over 20 lbs, I’ve introduced group workouts and classes to my exercise routine, I’m playing tennis at least 3 days a week, I’ve been playing (and winning!) tournaments, and I’ve had to buy a whole new wardrobe for my new body! I’m almost back in the same shape as I was in my early 20’s.
Scott and I are still training in tennis and he’s introduced a new “mental” aspect to my game – a type of coaching that I’ve never before received. This mental toughness I’m developing has improved my game and I’m looking forward to seeing it continue to pay-off.
While I don’t train with Scott as frequently as I did in the beginning, I still want to emphasize that I would not be where I am right now without his contribution to my fitness.
Lastly, I can’t fail to mention that he is extremely knowledgable when it comes to all things fitness. From stretching, warm-ups, proper weight-lifting form all the way to diet and nutrition – he has a wealth of knowledge.
